La chapelle des Rues est un tout petit édifice de 3 mètres sur 3 environ, située après le cimetière de Saint-Thomas-de-Courceriers sur la route d'lzé à l'embranchement des chemins qui mènent aux lieux dits Le Plessis et La Rabine. Des offices religieux y ont été célébrés jusque dans les années 70 environ. Dédiée à Saint Matthieu, les familles y amenaient les enfants qui avaient une difficulté pour marcher. On y venait également lors des rogations — (il y avait 3 jours de rogations, les lundi, mardi et mercredi qui précédent l'Ascension). Il s'agissait de processions à travers la campagne pour demander à Dieu, la protection des récoltes. Pour chacun de ces jours, la procession qui partait à 7h du matin de l'église se terminait par une messe dite dans une chapelle différente : celle du château de Courceriers, la chapelle des Rues et chapelle des Rongères. Une messe y était aussi également dite à la fin de la procession de la Saint Marc (le 25 avril), et le 15 août, après les vêpres, pour accomplir Ile vœu de Louis XIII, qui en 1638 consacra son royaume à Marie. Notre-Dame de l'Assomption est patronne de la France. L'idée de rénover la chapelle est venue de Geneviève Mariette, autant pour des raisons de sauvegarde du patrimoine que par souvenir familial. Sa tante, Marie-Louise Mariette fut sacristine à St-Thomas (où elle entretenait l'église et sonnait les cloches jusqu'à ce que sa santé le lui interdise. Elle avait un jardin autour de la chapelle où elle faisait les fleurs dont elle se servait pour fleurir la chapelle. La première initiative prise pour la rénovation de l'intérieur de la chapelle fut sa réponse (sans succès) au concours du Pèlerin «Un patrimoine pour demain» en 2003, faute de financement. Le livret de soutien avait été signé par environ 130 personnes de la commune. L'association "Ensemble pour l'environ-nement et le patrimoine à St Thomas" a repris son initiative à son compte et cherche à financer les travaux, avec le concours de la municipalité de St-Thomas. The chapelle des Rues is a very small building approximately 3 metres by 3, after the cemetery of Saint-Thomas-de-Courceriers, on the road to lzé at the junction of roads that lead to places called Le Plessis and La Rabine. Some religious services were held until about 70 years ago. Dedicated to St. Matthew, families brought children who had difficulty walking. It was also used during rogations (there were 3 rogation days on the Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday preceding the Ascension). There were processions across the country to ask God to protect the crops. On each of these days the procession, which started at 7 am at the church ended with a Mass said in a different chapel : Courceriers Château, the Chapelle des Rues and the Chapel of Rongères. A mass was also also said at the end of the procession of Saint Marc (April 25) and on August 15, after vespers, to perform a vow to Louis XIII, who in 1638 dedicated his kingdom to Mary. Our Lady of the Assumption is patron of France. The idea of renovating the chapel came from Geneviève Mariette, both for reasons of protecting some heritage and safeguarding a family heirloom. Her aunt, Marie-Louise Mariette was sexton in St-Thomas (where she maintained the church and rang bells until her health prohibited her). She had a garden around the chapel from where the flowers were used to decorate the chapel. The first initiative to renovate the interior of the chapel was her response to assist some Pilgrims "A Heritage for the Future" in 2003, unsuccessfully, for lack of funding. The book of support had been signed by about 130 people from the commune. The Association for the Environment and Heritage of St Thomas has taken the initiative and intends to finance the work, with the assistance of the municipality of St Thomas. | Chapelle des Rus Orthographiée « des Rus », « de Reu » mais aussi un peu abusivement « des Rues », la chapelle rurale dédiée à N-D de Bon-Secours domine le carrefour menant au Plessis et à la Rabine. On ne sait rien de l’édifice initial. La chapelle actuelle, probablement construite au 17e siècle a été restaurée une première fois en 1848 par la famille Duval. On y venait aux Rogations, à la St Marc et le 15 août. L’actuelle pierre d’autel a été taillée dans une pierre tombale très ancienne. Elle est placée sur un bloc sommairement équarri. L’ensemble mériterait une recherche plus approfondie. C’est la commune qui a pris en charge la réfection de la couverture et l’association "Ensemble pour l'environnement et le patrimoine à St Thomas" qui a réalisé les travaux à l’intérieur. Un tel exemple de coopération laisse présager d’autres restaurations réussies : ce territoire abrite quantité d’édifices qui, faute d’entretien, disparaitront à plus ou moins court terme. A l’heure des choix, il sera indispensable d’en avoir fait l’inventaire complet afin d’intervenir efficacement. Joël Poujade |
| Chapel of the Rus Spelled "of Rus'" of Reu "but also a little unfairly" Streets ", the rural chapel dedicated to Our Lady of Good Help dominates the crossroads leading to Plessis and Rabine. Nothing is known of the original building. The present chapel, probably built in the 17th century was restored first in 1848 by the Duval family. People came to Rogation, the St Marc and August 15. The current altar stone was carved in a tombstone very old. It is placed on a block roughly squared. All merit further research. It is the joint that has supported the rehabilitation of the coverage and the association "for Nature and Heritage at St Thomas' who did the work inside. One such example of cooperation suggests other successful restorations: the territory home to many buildings that lack of maintenance, disappear more or less short term. A time to decide, it will be essential to having a complete inventory in order to intervene effectively. Joel Poujade |
